Minimalist Game Day 13

The rules are simple, you get rid of things from your life, either by selling them, throwing them away, or donating them. On the first day, you remove one item, and then on the second day, you remove two items, you keep on playing until it’s the end of the month, or whenever you run out of things to remove from your life. It is okay if you can’t make it until the end of the month. Personally, I would rather see items get donated, or sold to someone else. If you must throw something away, I hope it’s because it isn’t fixable. Even if you have removed three items from your life, you should still be proud of that, because it is three more things you removed before the challenge. But if you are able to complete this challenge, you would have gotten rid of almost 500 items! That’s a lot of stuff.

If you are participating, I would love to know what you are parting with, feel free to let me know in the comments. This is such a fun way to welcome Spring cleaning.

This is from Saturday March 13th.

In the first photo, I am giving away…

  • Eight tins of tea, two of them I gave to my sister, so she can fill them up for part of her daughter, and step son’s surprise for Easter.
  • A dancing flower, it dances when it has sun shining on it. I think my niece will get a kick out of that.
  • A pumpkin for my cousin, she loves Halloween. I don’t have any purpose for it anymore.
  • A candle that got recycled
  • This light up butterfly that I will ask my cousin if she wants to have this, too. I kind of grow out of it.
  • A pair of socks that I don’t wear.

Is anyone decluttering their belongings right now for Spring cleaning? I would love to know about your journey, and if you need any help.

Day 70

This lesson is from Thursday March 11th.

I got to see my sister when she finished work. It was a bittersweet visit. We had planned to FaceTime my uncle since he was visiting my Grandpa. Because of the whole covid situation, my sister and I weren’t able to see him, so we can only FaceTime with him, to say our goodbyes.

He was alert, but sedated so he didn’t really say much, but that’s okay. My sister and I talked about all of our memories that we have shared with him. And my other cousins got to say goodbye to him via FaceTime, too. We were all there.

My sister and I talked about all of the times we were at the cottage, all of our sleepovers, all of those cups of tea he made us. My cousins and I slept over at our Grandparents’ house and we had a chocolate egg scavenger hunt. That was a lot of fun!

Today, I will reflect on memories that made me laugh and smile. I will try my hardest to keep them dear to my heart. Mostly I will try to keep the memories alive by telling them to others.

Happy Mardi Gras!

Hey everyone! Happy Mardi Gras! Today is the day where we celebrate by consuming pancakes! I love eating pancakes. I’m going to be having pancakes for dinner tonight. I cannot wait! It is also a day where you wear purple, gold, and green. Whereas purple represents justice, gold represents power, and green represents faith.

Mardi Gras translates into Fat Tuesday, because it’s a day where people use up their ingredients such as milk, eggs, flour, and sugars since most people will be fasting starting tomorrow until Easter for Lent. I don’t partake in this, because that was how I was raised. But I would love to go to New Orleans to see all of the celebrations. I have never been to New Orleans before, so I would love to visit.

I hope everyone is enjoying their day.

Day 116 of 192

Hey y’all, I’m back! I took a small break from my blog to focus on me for a bit.

This is Friday’s item.

My feet never really got that big growing up, so up until a few years ago, my shoes from elementary school stopped fitting me just recently. I am now just getting rid of what doesn’t fit.

I used to wear these shoes in grade six. I loved wearing these shoes for Easter, and having my mom paint my toes with some bold and bright colours.

But unfortunately several years later, they no longer fit, and that’s okay. I just hope that whomever ends up with these shoes, they have many great memories with these shoes as I did.

Day 76 of 192

This is Sunday’s item.

I am going to give this to my niece for her next Easter, since she is still a bit young for this right now. The reason why I am going to wait is because the bunny lights up. Until then I’m setting it aside until she is old enough.

Writing Wednesdays – My Grandparents’ House

Every Wednesday, I try to write a new piece of whatever I am feeling. Although it was actually supposed to be for a short story of mine. Unfortunately, I haven’t had much time to focus on that idea, right now, but I will definitely make time for it soon.

Because my Grandparents are about to celebrate their 68th wedding anniversary over the weekend, it makes me think of all of the fun times we shared at their place. Their house was always my favourite place to be at, aside from own house. A few years back, they had to sell their house because they had to move into a retirement home, since it was getting to be too much on my Grandpa to take care of my Grandma. I’m grateful that they are able to stay together in their retirement home.

My grandparents’ house is nice and cozy. We even had a guest room for our sleepovers. Our Grandpa always went to bed first, and we got to stay up watching a movie with Grandma. Then when the movie was over, our Grandma would always say a prayer to us, and tell us jokes before we went to sleep.

My Grandma might not have a spacious, open concept kitchen, but she was still able to make delicious meals and desserts. My Grandma used to make the best cherry cheesecake, butter tarts, and dates squares. My Grandma loved cooking, but because she has Parkinson’s Disease, her hand tremors, so I would help her make dinner, when my Dad and I visit them every Friday. I would help her slice carrots. My Grandparents would invite my sister, and parents over all of the time for roast beef, carrots, and mashed potatoes with her amazing gravy. Of course, my Grandma would make us dessert, too. It was always a fun night.

Since her hand tremors, I got to help her write her Christmas cards to everyone. I liked that a lot.

My sister and I would have a lot of sleepovers there, and sometimes our younger cousin would stay with us, too. We even built a fort in the dining room with lots of blankets. I remember sleeping over there during the Easter weekend, and we got to go on a scavenger hunt for chocolate eggs all throughout their house. It was a lot of fun, because it was me, and my two younger cousins, but my Grandma only had two beds in the guest room. So my uncle pushed the beds together and we slept lengthwise, so we can all fit on the beds.

They also had a cottage where we would go there, every year. They would always took us to the beach and the ice cream shop nearby. I miss visiting them in their house and cottage. My Grandparents lived in that house my whole childhood, until a few years ago.

My sister and I always had a lot of fun hanging out with our Grandparents. I wish I could turn back the time, and have one more sleepover there.

What makes it hard during the pandemic is that I can only talk to them on the phone, and not see them or get big hugs from them, at this moment. I can’t wait to give them the biggest hug ever when I see them again.
