Top Ten Tuesdays #22 – January 26th, 2021

This week is about New-to-Me Authors in 2020. Although because I didn’t really read many new authors last year. I am starting to branch out into new authors this year.

1. Robert Galbraith

Author is known for Cormoran Strike series. In case you haven’t heard, this is J.K. Rowling under a writing pseudonym. Her writing has evolved since the Harry Potter series, since these books are for mystery, not fantasy like the Harry Potter series were. These books are more for adults, instead of children.

2. Gillian Flynn

I have finally read my first Gillian Flynn’s books. I really enjoyed this book, despite already seeing the movie, and knowing what was going to happen in the book. I can’t wait to read her other books.

3. Janet Fitch

I finally read this book. I loved it so much. I have been wanting to read this book for a very long time. It was amazing, but heart wrenching, too. I admire Janet Fitch’s writing, because it was so beautifully poetic, it was like reading a long poem.

4. Shari Lapena

I borrowed this book from my Grandma. I am glad I did. I realized that she is a fellow Canadian, like me. I am excited to read her books.

5. Karen M. Manus

This was my first book I have read of Karen’s, she is an amazing author. She mostly writes mystery, and suspense books. I have really enjoyed her books. They really do put me on the edge of my seat. She is best known for her book, One of us is Lying.

6. D.M. Pulley

This was an amazing mystery, suspense story. It takes place in a haunted house. D.M. Pulley writes about suspense books, so I have added them to my To Be Read List.

7. Cristin Terrill

I loved reading this book so much. She had an interesting writing approach. Terrill’s idea was to write about it from Daniel’s perspective, so the reader had to decide from themselves, of whether or not Daniel was lying, or telling the truth.

8. Erin Falconer

This was an inspiring book, it was one of the first books I read during the first lockdown. It was really helpful. It was sitting on my book shelf for awhile, before I got around to read it.

Unfortunately those are the only new to me authors I have read this year, and last year. I did a lot of re-reads last year, especially with my Harry Potter books. I love those books, but alas, I have to put those books on hold for the time being, since I have a never ending To Be Read List.

Top Ten Tuesdays #18 – December 29th, 2020

This week we are discussing our favourite books of 2020. I’m not sure if this specifically includes books that were published in 2020, or just our general favourite books in 2020. I unfortunately, didn’t read any books that were published in 2020, but here is my list of the favourite books I have read this year.

I started making even more time for reading in March. I have always been a reader, but I was able to make more time for reading with the whole lockdown.

1. Educated

This book was such an inspiration because it shows how determined people are to go after their dreams. It’s an easy reminder of how fortunate we are to have access to an education, because there a lot of people in the world who don’t have access to an education.

2. White Oleander

I finally got around to reading this book. Although to be fair, when it first came out I was only five years old. Despite that this book was heartbreaking, I think Janet Fitch is an amazing writer, it’s almost like a long poem, it was so beautifully written. It is also sad that some people live like that.

3. No One’s Home

This was the perfect thriller. I loved every moment of it. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves thriller and mystery.

4. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

I reread my Harry Potter series (again!). To me, these books never get old. I read them at the start of the pandemic, because these books have the ability to always calm me down. I always enjoy reading them again. I also watched the movies after I finished the books. It was a fun marathon. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is my favourite Harry Potter book.

5. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

I wasn’t planning on reading this book, because I was waiting to watch the play first. I’m normally a read it first kind of gal, but I really wanted to watch the play not knowing much of the play. I was supposed to watch the play in October of this year, but the whole pandemic postponed the show. I hope I’ll be able to see it soon. I read it this summer because I was already doing a reread of the series, so I figured it seemed fitting. I am focusing on reading the other books on my bookshelves. I really enjoyed reading this book. It was nice knowing what happened to the majority of the main characters.

6. Gone Girl

I have seen this movie twice, and I have finally gotten around to reading the book. It was still fun reading the book, despite already watched the movie. It’s a scandalous mystery, thriller. It makes me want to read her other books.

7. Cuckoo’s Calling

This was my first time reading these books, I had a lot of fun reading them. This series was written by J.K. Rowling I think the reason why these books weren’t as popular as Harry Potter series were was because when these books were released no one knew J.K. Rowling wrote these books, and when they found it was her, they tried comparing these books to Harry Potter. These books are nothing like Harry Potter, but nonetheless, still enjoyable. This series is about a private detective, Cormoran Strike, and him solving cases with his assistant Robin.

8. The Couple Next Door

I love reading mystery books, and this was an amazing read. I borrowed it off of my Grandma, I’m so glad I did. I enjoyed the ending, and thought it was well done.

9. The Happiness Project

I have always enjoyed reading this book. I have been reading this book on and off for the past six years. I finally confident enough in myself to make my own Happiness Project. I am super excited for that.

10. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

I enjoyed reading this series, although I was looking forward to watching the series, but with Warner Bros. Production have requested Johnny Depp to resign, I don’t think I can support Warner Bros. after their decision. But the books are really amazing!

This week it is about Books I Want to Read Again, or Books I Wish I Could Read Again For the First Time.

1. All of the Harry Potter books

I really wish I had my collection with these covers, but that’s okay.

I would love re-reading them from time to time. I feel like they become more magical every time I re-read them.

2. Eat Pray Love

I loved the book, and the movie. I enjoy re-living the first time I experienced this book and movie.

3. The BFG

My boyfriend and I read this book together a few years ago. We thought it was really good.

4. To Kill A Mockingbird

I fell in love with this book when I read it in the tenth grade.

5. Charlotte’s Web

I first read this book in grade seven, I thought it was a touching and a heartfelt book. I can’t wait to re-read it. It’s a beautiful story about friendship.

6. The Year of Yes

I enjoyed this book, I thought it was a smart and funny book. It inspires me to be a better person.

7. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

I remember these books in high school, after watching the movies, years prior. I loved these stories so much.

8. Gone Girl

This book was a lot of fun to read. I wish I had read the book, before I saw the movie. It was still a good book. I probably wouldn’t read it again, or at least not for awhile. But I wish I was able not to know the ending, so I can read it without knowing what was going to happen.

9. Turn of the Key

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a thriller, so I wouldn’t be reading this since I already know the mystery. But I wish I can travel back in time, to be able to read it all over again. This book wanted me to read other Ruth Ware’s books. I enjoyed her writing.

10. The Couple Next Door

I borrowed this book from my Grandma, and it was a really good book. I wish I was able to go back in time to write the book for the first time, and not be able to see that twist happen. It was well done.

I loved this book, and the movie was amazing, too. I loved that the movie was very similar to the book, events, the descriptions of the characters.

My boyfriend and I are still reading this. It is a really interesting book.

WWW Wednesdays – October 28th, 2020

This is a post where I talk all about books by answering the following questions… Although I have had another busy week, so I have only finished one of the books I am currently reading.

1. What have I finished reading?

I really enjoyed this book. It was quite suspenseful. Despite the fact the book takes place in a short amount of time, there is a lot character development, which I really like when I’m reading books.

And

I liked this book, because it inspired me to build better habits, and how to follow through with my goals.

2. What am I currently reading?

I finally got to pick this up at the library. It’s a really great book. I just started reading it, and I already can’t put it down. I watched the movie before. What I like is that Gillian Flynn was a screen writer for the movie, because there is a nice consistency between the movie and the book. I hate when books get adapted into movies or a show, and the screen writers would start changing things. Which is why I am a believer that the book is usually always better than the movies.

And

This is a really long book, but hopefully we’ll finish it before the anniversary of his assassination.

3. What book will I read next?

This looks like like a really spooky movie. I can’t wait to read it.

Goodreads Monday #1 (10/19/2020)

Goodreads Monday is a weekly meme that was started by Lauren’s Page Turners. It is fairly simple to write about. You pick one of the books on your To Be Read List and explain why you want to read it.

I would love to read Gone Girl I watched this movie with my mama several years ago, and I loved it. When the movie started, it says that it was based on the novel, with the same title, and how the author Gillian Flynn, and how she is also responsible for the screen play writing as well. So I really liked how involved she was with the movie.

It’s a mystery and thriller kind of book. Even time I have seen the movie, it makes me what to read the book. Normally I am always read the book, watch the movie. But my mom really wanted to watch this movie, so I didn’t have time to read it beforehand.

I have always been interested to compare it to the movie. It’s the perfect season to read thrillers with it being Spooktober in all. I placed a hold at my library, so I will be able to read it very shortly. I am so excited!
