We Run From Pain

“Something terrible happens, we blame ourselves, and we don’t want to feel it, so we run. We run from joy, too because we think we don’t deserve happiness. But it’s a package deal. There is no joy without pain.”

-Meredith Grey, Grey’s Anatomy

For some of you who are new my blog, one of my favourite shows is Grey’s Anatomy. I can binge watch that show for days on end. In fact, I have countless times.

As of lately I have been feeling sad, well I’ve been mostly sad these days. I’ve been trying my best to cheer myself up, some days can be a difficult task than other days.

This was a quote that Meredith says to Teddy about how Teddy is always running from her pain. And that when happy things happen to her, she feels like she doesn’t deserve it. Which I can 100% relate to. This year has been unbearable and challenging at times. I feel like I have been running away from my problems. But that is a never ending race. As much as we hate to admit this, we will never be able to run away from our problems. They will keep on reappearing in our lives until we learn we are needed to learn in the first place. The problem with feelings is they demand to be felt.

I keep on reminding myself that there will come a time that the pain I had to encounter is going to transfer into something so beautiful and joyous. We just have to keep on believing in ourselves, and we’ll see it for ourselves. Our battles and problems will turn us into warriors, we just can’t let them ruin us, or bring us down. If we let our situations belittle us, I hope that we continue to raise to the occasion. Like my Grandpa always said; “Time waits for no one.”.

We think we don’t deserve happiness or joy, but we actually do deserve it. We work so hard, and feel like there isn’t time to truly experience bliss. We are too busy to let these positive emotions in. But we really should be setting aside time for happiness.

When we feel pain, just know that joy is soon to follow. We just have to trust the universe, and ourselves.

A Light Purge

This is from Friday March 19th.

Every week, I like to focus and write about simple ways that help lift us into better mood, that doesn’t require much energy or money. I call it Feel Good Fridays. I like to think that can help others.

This week I suggest that you purge a small area in your house, whether it is a drawer, a countertop, or a night table, or something that you have been wanting to go through for a little while now. It doesn’t have to be a big area in the house. This is just something to help you spark your motivation if you wish to continue going through more areas of your house.

Really ask yourself if you have used any of those objects in the last three months. And if the answer is no, then ask yourself if you plan on using it in the next three months. If the answer is still no, then those object(s) need to get donated, or thrown out/recycled if it is beyond repair. Then reorganize the area, if needed.

This mission will help you feel so much better. Living with less things has many benefits, such as less anxiety, less stress, and more money are just a few of the many benefits of living with less. You will be able to see more clearly of what makes you happy, and what doesn’t.

Of course, minimalism can done at your pace. You can spend a few days to purge through everything, or you can spend 15 minutes every day until you are satisfied with your work. So you can keep on going to clean the room, or take a break after your small area. Whatever you decide to do, be sure to take a rest after your hard work! You earned it.

Meditation

Every week, I talk about small ways we can boost our moods, with little to no effort. I became inspired when my second cousin was going through a slump, so I was giving her simple ideas to help boost her mood. I know at some point, we have gone through this slump trying to deal with the effects of the pandemic lockdowns.

I have been working on practicing meditation, and making it a part of my every day life. I feel like I have been able to focus better. Sometimes I felt like I have had some challenges trying to stay focus on somethings. Especially when the tasks takes me longer than it needs to complete. Which is really troubling, and sort of annoying that I had troubles focusing and getting stuff done. But I feel like that since I have been working and making meditations, I feel like I am able to get more things done. I feel like I am able to think more clearly. Meditation has a lot of other benefits, as well, such as helping you get a deeper sleep, helps release stress, and so many more.

Since this is a new practice for me, I have only been setting aside five, maybe ten minutes of meditation every day. I have been working on it, for almost two weeks now. I am definitely proud of myself for keeping up with this habit. I feel like it has been keeping me calm through my the situation with my Grandpa, since he is currently at the hospital.

The five minutes I have been setting aside for a meditation has been so easy, and the effects that it has on my body, mind, and soul have been game changer. I am so happy, and definitely encourage everyone to try meditating. There are so many videos on meditating on YouTube, which is a free service. If you are new to meditating, try looking for a beginner video to start out, and get comfortable with. You would be glad you did.

February 2021 Resolutions Summary

For my readers whom may not know about my Happiness Project… Each month I focus on making resolutions for myself that focuses on different aspects of my life that help me become more organized, happier, and more loving. I became inspired by the idea from Gretchen Rubin’s book, The Happiness Project. In February, she found ways to add more love to her relationships. So I sort of did the same idea for my month of February as well.

On the first of every month, I will write about my resolutions are, and why. And then on the last day of the month, I will write about my successes and my not so successful resolutions. It has been an exciting journey so far, I have learned a lot about myself.

I feel like this was a busy month, so that made things a bit more stressful. The days went by so quickly, that I felt like I didn’t have much time to get the things I wanted to get done, done. So I had to learn to manage my time better, and more efficiently. I feel like my confidence has increased a bit. I have felt like I have been loving myself more. I started partaking a yoga schedule, and getting myself more active.

My February resolutions were…

  1. Fight right
  2. Give tokens of love
  3. Kiss each other good night and good morning
  4. Give compliments to each other

Ironically, my boyfriend and I had a stressful month, because we spent a lot of night fighting with each other. Although it gave us chances to work on our fighting, and how to resolve a conflict we were facing at the time. My recommendations to fight right is paint, or draw a picture to express the feelings you are experiencing. You can write a letter to the person, and have that person you are in a disagreement, reply back. You can use; “I feel…” statements. Really refrain from calling each other rude names, because that will just make things worst.

I painted my boyfriend a painting, and I wrote him a letter. I wanted to do more for him, but he was home more than he normally was, because his work was slow. But we spent a lot of time together, to make up for the fact. We watched some new shows together, which is always fun. We took turns cooking, and cleaning.

We definitely kiss each good morning, but sometimes my boyfriend got too tired, and fell asleep before kissing me good night. But for the most part, we did fairly well with this resolution.

I feel like we did give each other compliments, but I guess we could have given each other more compliments. We can work on that next month, too.

All in all, I am starting to feel more happy with making and working on these resolutions. I feel like I will try to do better in March. I can’t wait to start and begin new resolutions. I’ll definitely keep you posted on what I am working on next.

Clean Sheets

A few months ago, I thought of the idea of writing about little things we can do to be happy. I know that times like these, it may seem a bit challenging to feel happy. Every week, I write about small activities that can boost our happiness, without much effort. I like to call it Feel Good Fridays.

If you had a long day, this is the perfect way to end a stressful day, is by curling up in bed with clean sheets. To experience the feelings of happiness, take a shower before going into bed. I love cleaning and changing my sheets. It feels amazing. It definitely boosts my happiness, and it helps eases my anxiety from the day.

Thankful Thursdays #33 – February 11th, 2021

I love talking about I am thankful for every week. I hope you are able to take some time and begin reflecting on what you are grateful for, and are able to have gratitude towards.

Here is my list… Feel free to share yours.

  1. I got to babysit my niece twice in a week, we had a lot of fun. I got to take her out sledding, which she always enjoys. I love seeing her smile.
  2. I am thankful that I got to make a craft with her to give to her parents for Valentine’s Day. My sister loved it!
  3. I am grateful that my boyfriend and I got to spend an extra day together, we spent it watching a movie, and watching our shows.
  4. I was reading to my niece Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. I was so grateful and happy when my niece wanted to hear another poem. She loves it when I read to her. She loves looking at all of the illustrations, and helping me turn the pages.
  5. Lastly, I am grateful that I got to spend some time with my sister when she came back from work.

I know there are probably other things I am thankful for, but this is my top five.

Empower

I am a bit behind, but I hope everyone had a great week, so far. Here is a weekly quote to close out the week.

We have the power to use our words to heal or hurt people, the choice is ours. Why don’t we do something inspiring to help others? We might not even know the magnitude of our words or actions have on other people. So in the world that can seem like an awful place, we should learn to love and appreciate others.

And more importantly we should also learn to empower ourselves. We need to learn that it is okay to let go of things, and sometimes people that no longer serve us, or add any joy in our lives. It’s okay to leave things behind. Not everything was meant to stay with us forever. The sooner we learn this, the more peaceful our lives will be.

Day 39

On Monday, since my boyfriend had the day off, we spent the day catching up, and getting on better terms with one and another. Since I had finished one of my library books called, Bridge to Terabithia, I thought it would be cool to re-watch it. I haven’t watched it since seventh grade. I love the book, and movie. More so on that later.

I find it a lot of fun to watch something I haven’t seen in awhile, it definitely brings back a lot of memories. I love re-watching Disney movies, I have so many favourites.

My boyfriend enjoyed watching this movie a lot. He hasn’t seen it, so it was a fun way to spend the day. We had a homemade bacon poutine for the movie.

Today, I will spend the day re-watching a movie that I haven’t seen in awhile. This helps remind us of happier times, and memories.

Day 38

Day 38 was from Sunday.

My boyfriend and I were having a lot of disagreements throughout the day. I think to think that perhaps the game brought us a tad closer together throughout the day. We were still mad a bit on Monday (the next day). Things got a bit better throughout as the week went by.

Something that also brought us together was that I tried this new recipe — steak poutine! For those who don’t know, a poutine is French fries served with melted cheese, and gravy. It’s one of our favourite things to order out since we have cut back in ordering take out, in order to save up, and pay down our debts. I was just planning on making a steak dinner, and a poutine on the side. But I decided to combine the two sides together. It was a delicious meal, perfect for the BIG game!

Trying out new recipes are a lot of fun, if not necessary to spice out your weekly rotations.

Today, I will try to find new recipes to cook. New foods will add a bit of happiness throughout the day. Having different meals, can bring you closer with the people you have it with, or at least that worked out for my boyfriend and myself.

Watching Something Funny

Every week, I talk about small little things that we can do to embrace happiness. I get that somedays we have these days where we aren’t happy. And that’s okay, too. But what matters is how we get ourselves out of the slumps of unhappiness, and feeling unmotivated to do something about it.

This week’s suggestion for Feel Good Fridays is watching something funny, it can be standup comedy, a funny movie, a show, bloopers, or whatever else. Since it is Super Bowl Weekend, and I am a huge fan of watching football. I am watching past Super Bowl commercials on TV. I love those commercials. I feel like those commercials are the best.

What is something that you do that helps boost your happiness?
