Always make the time for learning new things, and skills. It’s important since continued learning helps your mind, and brain stay active. Keeping the mind active, helps slow down developing dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease. It doesn’t have to be much, you can practice a Sudoku puzzle, read a book, watch TedTalks, or YouTube videos about learning something new. Perhaps you always wanted to learn how to knit, or crochet, that can help keep your mind sharp.
I know myself, I would love to learn and watch some videos on people demonstrating how to do this skill. There are some many different videos out there, where you can learn anything you like. I’m sure there are books on the subjects you are interested on, if that’s how you like to learn.
I enjoy learning a new language. I love practicing French on phone. I took French throughout high school, so this is a nice refresher.
Today, I will set aside some time for me to learn something new, whether it is a new recipe, a new language, or a new hobby. Not only is it fun to learn something new, but I will be able to keep my mind sharp and active.
I am currently planning on writing a life lesson, or a daily affirmation every day. These lessons have either been learned that day, or some point throughout my life. I hope that the lessons I have learnt throughout my years can help someone.
In life, we often fail, many times, more than we care to admit, but that doesn’t mean that we will never be able to reach success. We just have to continue to believe in ourselves, and never give up. Our goals normally take a lot of work, but that’s okay, because it wouldn’t feel as good to accomplish them if they were easy.
Regardless how many fails we have and go through. It does not make us a failure. Please refrain yourself from calling yourself that. We both know that, that is not true.
We may go through a lot of failed attempts with everything, but that does not mean that we can never feel the feeling of success, and feeling successful. In fact, we face a lot of failed attempts, before we reach success. Reaching success mostly comes from failures, and learning from our past mistakes, and realizing those solutions didn’t work.
Today, I will recognize that just because I have failed at something, that doesn’t mean I will never not be successful. It just means that I have to keep on trying to reach success. I have to learn and accept things from my past mistakes and failed attempts. It is usually right after a lot of failure, where we truly get to experience success. We must not give up, or else, we may never experience success.
Wow! This is it! I am so proud of myself for finishing this project. I am about to ring in the new year with 192 less items than I would have. And I was able to help other people in the process. It’s a liberating feeling knowing that I did this.
Not everyone knows this, but I have had my things spread out in three other houses, four if you include the actual place I live at currently. Now, I only have things in three houses. My goal for the year was to bring it down to one, but I had to refrain from these houses because of the pandemic. But hopefully by the end of next year, I’ll only have my things in my house, the one I live at.
I still feel like there’s a few more things to give away. I hope I also inspired other people to go through their belongings, too.
This decluttering journey inspired me to write a short story, which is something I was planning to work on in the new year. That’s really exciting.
But here it is! Item number 192. It isn’t a big reveal, but it is still something.
I found this item in a container of my belongings. I have kept this way longer than I needed to. I plan on giving these to my Grandma, because I am sure she knows someone who would appreciate this.
Hi y’all. Sorry I haven’t been around much. I have just been going through something the past few days. More on that later.
So, this was a letter I wrote for my boyfriend. The theme was these letters, sealed in an envelope. It says “Open when… You are Sad” Other emotions were when you are happy, when you need motivation, when you are bored, when you need motivation, etc. I had written ten different letters, because it was for our 10 months anniversary.
This is what I wrote for Anger. It include quotes from movies we like, and proverbs I like.
Dear: Boyfriend,
“Hey, Mr. Grumpy Gills. When life gets you down, you know what you gotta do? Just keep swimming! Just keep swimming! Just keep swimming!” -Dory, Finding Nemo
“If you are pateient in one moment of anger, you will escape a hundred days of sorrow.” -Chinese Proverb
It’s okay to be mad every now and again. It’s HOW you handle it, that matters. When you’re mad, it’s important to not say something that you do not mean. It’s also important to respect people’s belongings, and feelings.
Allow yourself to be angry, no need to disguise it, or dismiss your feelings of anger. Next learn to sit with your anger. Don’t act on your anger, just sit and think about it. No need to rush your thoughts and or actions. Just sit. Take your time to feel this emotion – feel your heart beat, observe your breath. Meditate with your feelings. Decide you are not looking for a way to get even, or to gain power.
Look back on what kind of mood you were in before the situation (the one that got you mad). It may not have been the incident that is to blame. Ask yourself; “Why is this bothering me so much?” Is it really what someone else did, or are you feeling angry because of what you are interpreting their actions to mean? For example you get mad at someone for not listening, because you interpret it as this person not caring about you. Take a look at your actions. Look for all areas where you may be projecting your own traits onto someone else to get closer to the root of your feelings. Jot your feelings down in a journal. Let it all out.
Now that you’ve spent some time dealing with your anger, initiate a conversation with this person about what bothered you in a way without you expressing your anger in a rude or violent manner. The way to do that is by using; “I feel…” language. This way, you are not assuming this person did something intentionally, or that you come across as assuming something. Another phrase that is beneficial is “It seemed to me like…”. This helps you explain your understanding of the situation without assuming something of the other person. You are simply expressing how their actions make you feel so they have an understanding about how their actions impact you. Resist the urge to bring up other grievances, instead stick to the situation at hand, and discuss those at another time, if you still need to. Validate the person’s perspective. It is important to value the way they see the situation, too. Focus on creating a solution. If your goal is to get the other person to admit that they were wrong, you’re probably end up in a power struggle.
Learn from what you value. This situation taught you something useful about what you value in people. Learn what you need, maybe you needed that lesson, to improve a relationship. Learn from it, own it, act on it. Learn how to communicate clearly. This helps you to fully express yourself in a way for you to be honest. This also helps you to learn how you can improve your response to anger from escalating. Maybe you have learnt to put more space between your feelings, and responses. Next, reflect and learn what you’ll do differently in another situation.
And lastly, forgive. After the person has apologized, one way to finish the conversation is by saying. “I love you. I forgive you.”
“For ever minute you spend being angry, you lose sixty seconds of happiness.”
This is a late post from yesterday. I am writing about Feel Good Fridays. It’s where I write about ways to feel good about ourselves. Yesterday, I walked to the library, and I got a book that I wanted to read for a really long time. It’s called White Oleander.
I think reading is a good way to relax the mind. At least it does that to my mind. Reading makes me feel good. It’s a good way to unwind. Depending on what you are reading you can learn something from it.
I am a huge believer that whatever you manifest into the universe, comes back to you. That’s why I always try to keep my thoughts positive. Whenever I think positively, positive things tend to come my way. And whenever I say the things that I don’t want to happen, they typically come true. But if you are able to use the same energy for something bad, you may as well put forth positive energy instead.
Think back to your last bad day, where you kept on thinking to yourself, “What else can happen?” or something along those lines, and the day just seems to keep on getting worse. That’s because you are sending out to the universe that you want bad things to keep on happening to you. It’s all a matter of changing your thoughts from negative to positive.
This is my vision board, that I keep by my bed, so it’s the last thing I see at night and the first thing I see in the morning. These are the ideal times to reflect on my goals and how I envision my future. I encourage everyone to have a vision board, because it really showcases what you truly want in the future.
Your vision board can entail anything from quotes, to pictures of your dream job, your dream house, a pet, anything you would like to have in the future.
For me, the outer cue cards are mostly quotes about being positive and being grateful. In the middle you can see a cut out of my hand that I traced to add more of a personal touch to my vision board, which features specific and personal goals.
I know this isn’t the best photo, but this was the only one I could capture without a shadow from my phone. Starting from the top left corner, and continuing to go right, then down, then left, then back up to the top.
“Girl, you already have what it takes!”
“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.”
“Working hard is important, but there is something that matters even more, believing in yourself.”
“Never give up on a dream, just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.”
“You are the author of your life, if you don’t like how it goes, write it differently.”
“Create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life, because you become what you believe.” -Oprah Winfrey
“Wear gratitude like a cloak, and it will feed every corner of your life.” -Rumi
“Know your limits, then ignore them.”
“You are what you manifest.”
“The key is not to worry about being successful, but to instead work towards being significant – and the success will naturally flow.” -Oprah Winfrey
“If you want it, work for it!”
“Dream. Believe. Do. Repeat.”
“I am open to the flow of great abundance in all areas of my life.”
“The best is yet to come.”
“Be the energy you want to attract.”
“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times. If one only remembers to turn on the light.” LUMOS! -Dumbledore
For those who haven’t read Harry Potter, Lumos is a spell the students say so their wands can illuminate which allows them to see in the dark. Lumos stems from the Latin word lumens meaning light or lamp.
And I was a bit creative because there are five aspects of life such as, work, health, spiritual, learning and social. So I figured what better way to broadcast these five aspects of my life then by tracing of my own hand.
I). The pinkie finger is Work: Be my own boss. Meaning that I would love to be able to be a full time blogger and influencer. I would just rather work for myself, and achieve my goals, than having to work for someone else’s dreams. I would have a lot of freedom of making my schedule and keeping my profits. Having had this time off from work due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was an eye opener and it made me realize that having to work for someone else, isn’t what I want to do right now.
II). The ring finger is Health: Maintain a healthy lifestyle. I would be able to do this by ensuring that I exercise more and eat healthy whole foods. This one can be a challenge because I love chocolate and other sweets. I know that those are okay, in moderation, but sometimes, I just don’t understand moderation. LOL!
III). The middle finger is Learning: Always read and learn new languages. I’m sure there are other things I want to learn too. But I want to read all of the books on my bookshelves first, and they are a lot of books that need to be read. Right now I am learning French (again), as a refresher, although I have been able to remember a lot of words and phrases from high school. I always love learning new things.
IV). The index finger is Social: Make time for family and friends. I haven’t been able to hang out with my family and friends since the coronavirus lock down. I know that I will be able to hang out with them soon enough.
V). The thumb is Spiritual: Practice yoga and meditation, and always follow my heart. ❤ I believe that meditation heals and resets the soul. I feel like whenever you are stressed out, especially, meditation helps by sorting out and guides you with the answers to your problems. I love practicing yoga because it helps relaxes me as well, and it allows me to flexible and release stress. Practicing meditation and yoga helps me be mindful of my breathing and it provides me with enlightenment. Following my heart is always important to because not everyone understands my feelings, the only person that does, is me. At the end of the day, I must do what is best for me.
I hope seeing my vision board inspires you to think of some cool ideas for your own. I would love to see your future boards in the comments. And as always feedback and encouragement is appreciated.
Today, I am thankful to learn new things. I love learning new recipes, new languages and new skills. Right now I have been going through my recipe books, and I have been relearning French on a language app on my phone. They say we learn something new every day. I wholeheartedly agree with that.
I love being able to learn new things. It is such a privilege to make time and having many different resources at our fingertips that allow us to learn new things. It helps sharpen our minds. They are many healthy benefits that come with having a healthy mind. Learning new things helps keep our minds and brains in shape.
*Warning* This blog post may be graphic for some readers.
About six months ago, my boyfriend was walking me to work. During that time it was our winter, so I had slipped and fallen on some ice on my right thigh. It hurt a bit, but I shook it off as I had ways to go. That whole morning, even getting ready for work felt like an off day for me. I wasn’t in the best mood. To be honest, I was feeling a bit discouraged that day.
We were almost at my work, when the light had turned green – our right away. And because I was angry that day, I was walking fast, faster than my boyfriend, and the next thing I knew I was lying on the ground. I had just gotten hit by a car that was turning left and he ran right into me. I was too busy thinking in my head to hear the car turning. My boyfriend tried his best to grab me and pull me out of the way. He felt me slip out of his arms.
I was crying, but I was strong enough to stand up afterwards. My mind has never let me remember the actual feeling of getting hit by the car. Which I am so thankful for. It really was scary. I just remember the feeling pain on my face and on my right thigh, (it didn’t help that I had previously fallen on it, 20 minutes prior) which is what had hit the car. I also remember being scared to touch my face and thigh in fears of feeling broken bones. After I had placed my hands over those body parts, I just felt the skin being swollen, nothing was broken, although I don’t have a Medical Degree, so I couldn’t be 100% certain.
My boyfriend took me over to a side walk where he took his coat off and used that as a cushion for me to sit down on. Then a familiar customer approached me asking me if I was okay, because I assumed not a lot of time has passed by, so she must have saw the accident. She was nice enough to call for help on my behalf. I told her that I worked at the coffee shop just up the street, where she was heading. She had spoke to the manager explaining the situation to my manager. My manager came out and saw me and gave me a hug.
I just remembered looking at the car and seeing his side mirror hanging off over his door handle.
Not much time after that, help showed up. My boyfriend and I both gave the police our statements. We then went to a hospital to get looked at to make sure that I was okay. After a doctor had examined me, she told me that I was lucky. Nothing was broken, just bruises and a bit of swelling.
It was in those moments that I truly was lucky. I could have suffered life-threatening injuries, or worst, I could have died, but the universe told me that my purpose and story wasn’t over. The universe knew that I had more to offer and bring into this world. It made me feel that I was needed and people needed me too.
I was also reminded me that I should be chasing my own dreams and passions and not be persuaded by what others want me to be. I pursued accounting thinking that I would love it, and be good at it. And also because people were encouraging telling me that I would be good at it, as well. But when I was studying it, I felt like my heart wasn’t it.
When they placed my hospital bracelet, I remembered the other times that I had to wear one in the past. Being in the hospital, made me feel like a patient in Grey’s Anatomy. It reminded when I was younger, I always wanted to be a nurse. I love helping people, I’m an optimistic and a caring person who has a lot of patience. To me, those are good qualities to have as a nurse. I know there are many other qualities to be a nurse, but those are the first ones that come to mind.
Later that night, because I had fallen and broke the concrete with my face. I ended up chipping one of my tooth, that I previously chipped two years ago, almost to the day. It was just not my day that day. I noticed because I was eating my dinner and a part of my filling came off. But I am thankful for all of the lessons it has taught me.
Although, to be honest I laid in bed for the next week or so. It wasn’t so much the aftermath of getting hit by the car that knocked me out, it was mostly the anxiety of having to go back outside. I also had a purple, dark blue bruise on my face, so that made me feel a bit self conscious. It was a very scary time for me. Fortunately, the bruise was a pale yellow greenish bruise by the time I returned to work a week later. It reminded that everything is only temporary, this pain won’t last forever.
I just felt a lot of life changing moments during the whole incident. I felt like beforehand, I wasn’t in the best place, emotionally; I often felt like I wasn’t me. I felt like I had outgrew a lot of things, like I was hungry and wanting new and better things for myself. I wanted a new job, a new place to live. The whole incident taught me to not settle for things that made me unhappy, instead choose happiness.
It made me realize that I am stronger than I even realized. I am capable of making changes in my life. This incident made me count my blessings, and to always be thankful no matter what happens to me. It was like this whole thing was a teaching moment. It reinforced everything that I preach in my blog, to be thankful, to never settle, to always believe in yourself and to overcome your anxieties and fears. I can really go and do anything I want to in my life.
It was also a reminder to always live your life like it is your last day. I know that made sound like a cliche, but it’s so true. You should always fill your days doing something you love. Always tell your friends and family how much they mean to you. No one knows when their time is going to run out. Don’t let the bad times bring you down, you can always stand up, no matter how hard the universe may bring you down. Use your troubles as stepping stones for something better. Learn to count your blessings, not your burdens.
I have learned many things through trial and error. I learned a lot this morning. I’ve been meaning to make pancakes for awhile now so I planned it today. I have never made pancakes before in all of my life. I usually have other people make it for me… This is how the tradition of pancakes on my birthday originated from because people would do anything for the birthday girl. 🙂
Anyway, good thing my sister bought “Just add water” mix for my birthday. I am capable of reading the book but to ensure they get their perfect shape is another story…
I tried to make my pancakes as perfect as I could but my first one it was the furthest thing from perfection. But my second pancake was a success!
This reminds that I learn things from trial and error. I need to tell myself that even if I fail once, to never give up because success is around the corner. It also tells me that I shouldn’t allow perfect to be the enemy of the good. And it helps me accept things as they are and not as I wish to see things. That was something I used to do all the time.
Well now I am accepting and admitting that even though I strive for perfection and try to to be perfect. I never will be.
Who knew that making pancakes would be this philosophical? 🙂
