Goodreads Mondays #11 – December 28th, 2020

I cannot believe this is the last Goodreads Mondays of 2020. It is crazy how time flew by, but it also felt like it didn’t fly by. Out of 11 of these books that I have talked about, I was able to read two of these books. I have read No One’s Home, and Gone Girl.

This is a post about us discussing one of the books in our To Be Read List and talking about why we would like to read it. I would love to know what is on your To Be Read List.

I would love to read all of the books I have on hand, before I buy anymore, and even placing holds at the library. I told myself that it is okay that I place books on hold for a few books. But at the same I already have so many books here.

One of these books that I haven’t read yet, is The Family Upstairs. by Lisa Jewell.

It is a dark thriller about how on Libby’s 25th birthday she received a letter, which she has been waiting all of her life for. She is finally going to find out who she is. She soon discovers the identity of her birth parents, and that she is the inheritor of their abandoned mansion, worth millions of dollars. She has no idea that other people have been waiting for this moment to happen either. Twenty-five years ago, the police were called to the mansion with reports of a crying baby, laying in her crib, where there were three dead bodies in the kitchen, next to a note. And the other four children reported to live there were gone. This house lives the darkest secrets.

This week’s topic is a Halloween freebie. So I am going to list all of my scary thriller books that I will be reading over the next few days.

10. Two Can Keep A Secret

I am really excited to read this book, I just got it from the library a few days ago.

9. There’s Someone Inside Your House

Another book I picked up from the library. It sounds really spooky.

8. Here Lies Daniel Tate

Another book I found at the library. It looks really interesting.

7. Then She Was Gone

6. The House We Grew Up In

5. The Family Upstairs

4. Woman on The Edge

This was the only book I had finished. It started out really well, but without giving away the ending, it could have been better.

3. The Girl On the Train

I started watching the movie, because my boyfriend and I were having a scary movie marathon, but we changed our minds, and we didn’t want to spoil the book. I was drawing a blank that day of movies to watch, but we eventually figured out which movie to watch.

2. The Other Mrs.

  1. Gone Girl

I have seen the movie, and I have just started reading this last night. It’s really good.

This week’s top ten is Books On My Fall 2020 TBR. I am so happy to start reading these books since it’s now spooky season!

10. 11/22/63

My boyfriend and I are currently reading this book. It’s a really good book. I remember I read it for a school project, and I quite enjoyed reading it. It’s about this guy who has a time travelling machine in his diner. He convinces one of his customer to go back in time to prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy from happening. I highly recommend reading this book.

9. The Mist

Another one from Stephen King. I wish to have all of his books at some point in my life. I haven’t read many of his books before, because I used to think they were too scary for me. But now, I am embracing it the spookiness because I love watching scary movies and reading scary books. I just started reading this book today, it’s pretty interesting. It’s about a father and son that get trapped at a super market during a thunderstorm. There’s unknown creatures in the mist.

8. The Chef

I bought this book for my boyfriend. He seemed to really like it, so that makes me really excited to read it, too. It’s about how a detective who also runs a food truck becomes Louisiana’s Most Wanted.

7. The Other Mrs.

I haven’t read this one either, but it sounds quite intriguing. A husband and wife start a new chapter in their lives by moving to a new state. Only to discover one of their neighbours is found dead in her house.

6. The House We Grew Up In

This is one of the books I am most interested in about. I have heard many great things about Lisa Jewell books. This one is about how a close knit family, until a tragedy pulls them apart and they end up having to go back to the house they grew up in.

5. Then She Was Gone

It is about a girl who disappeared ten years. And her mother has never given up hope of finding out what happened to her daughter. Then the mother meets a gentleman who has a daughter that looks identical to her missing daughter when she was her age.

4. The Family Upstairs

I haven’t read this book either, but it looks really spooky. It’s about a woman who is about to find the identity of her birth parents, but she is about to discover that she is the sole inheritor of their abandoned mansion.

3. Woman on the Edge

I saw this at a book store, and I was so intrigued by the cover and the tag line. I had to buy it. And the best part was it was on sale, too. I can’t wait to read it.

2. Girl on the Train

This book has been sitting on my bookshelf, and I keep on vowing that I’m going to read this by the end of the year. A lot of reviewers are comparing this to the next Gone Girl. This is one of the books I’m really interested in, so I didn’t want to look it up online. I got this book because I’m scared of trains, so I thought it would make this book much more scarier than what it actually is. I can’t wait to watch the movie.

  1. The Time Traveler’s Wife

I’ve seen this movie a few times, and I loved it. The first time I watched it, I had no idea it was based on a book. It’s about a guy who has a genetic disorder that allows him to time travel. Which results in his wife feeling lonely and out of sync dealing with his absences.
