March Resolutions 2021

As part of My Happiness Project, each month I focus on different aspects and areas of my life. This is about my journey of how I incorporate new habits, and a thought process into every day. For March, I have decided to focus on my possessions, and how I declutter through more of my things. I plan on putting my energy into ways I can create space in my life. I am really excited to go through my belongings, and finally see what I need and no longer need. I picked the month of March to go through my possessions, which also includes a digital clutter because spring begins in March. I have always viewed March for a fresh start, and new beginnings. On the first day of every month, I will discuss my goals, and resolutions, and how I will be making these changes. Then on the last day of the month, I will talk about how I made these changes, and to discuss on how these habits helped me experience more happiness.

My Resolutions

  1. Be cautious on bringing in more clutter into my house and life.
  2. Purge through items every day
  3. Create a no dumping areas
  4. Spend 15 minutes every day deleting emails, duplicates of photos

Be Cautious

I want to have a better relationship when it comes to owning things. I would think more clearly when I make any purchases. I feel like I have done a pretty job when it comes to this. This is something that I want to continue. I am comfortable with having less things in my life. I also like saving the money I have been saving because I’m not going out of my way to buy something new. I also refrain from taking gifts, or other things with me. Normally my Grandma will find something for me, like a new shirt, or something else, I politely decline because I have reached the point in my life, where I am happy living with less.

Purge Items Daily

I have been playing this neat game, every one is welcome to join. Although I am a bit behind in posting everything. The objective of the game is simple, on the first day, you donate, throw away, or sell one item from your house, then on the second day, you remove two items, and so on and so forth. You can either stop at the end of the month, or you whenever you are comfortable with your work. It is okay if you stop before the end of the month. I recently did a Daily Decluttering Challenge last year, where I began by removing one item a day, for 192 days. Any items that you have gotten rid of is more than what you would have gotten rid if you didn’t participate in this challenge.

Create No Dumping Areas

I have mentioned this before, but that’s okay. I feel like everyone has a zone in their house, whether it’s their dresser, dining room table, or kitchen countertop, or a bookshelf. It’s basically an area where people just “dump” everything, because they don’t have a place for them, or just don’t want to deal with any of it. My boyfriend likes to treat our bookshelf like this. It’s his dumping zone. I’ve been trying to tell him to handle and deal with his things instead of just dumping it all on the bookshelves.

Digital Declutter

I would love to go through all of my photos that I have taken for the past few years, and organize them into photo albums. I plan on getting some of them developed. My boyfriend and I have a couple of photo albums already, although we just need to get our photos developed and place them. I know it’s kind of ironic, but to me, I grew up on photo albums, and to me, they spark joy. I feel like if it sparks joy, then it isn’t really clutter. I feel like clutter is anything that holds you back, or adds stress. Another characteristic of clutter is something that no longer adds any value to your life.

I feel like these resolutions are going to make things easier and better in my life. I have been working on these goals already. I can’t wait to update you with my progress. I would love to hear about your journey if you wish to partake in any of these challenges.

Day 60

This lesson was learned on Monday.

Since Monday was the first day of the new month, it is important to realize that we are granted a new start. With the month of March, comes spring cleaning, and getting more organized with your house, and your life. It’s time to plant your seeds, and blossom into the beautiful flower you hope to be.

I have been working and thinking of ways I can organize my room. To me, the best way to organize anything is by getting a lot of things. It’s easier because then you have less things to worry about, and organize. Even though spring isn’t going to arrive for another few weeks, it is never too early to start spring cleaning. I am currently working on going through my clothes that I haven’t worn in awhile. Especially since I will be making the transition from my winter clothes to my spring and summer clothes within the upcoming weeks. I love the feeling of things being clean and organized. I love this time of year. Although I do a lot of cleaning and organizing throughout the year, too.

Today, I will try my best to get a jump start on organizing for Spring Cleaning. It is never too early to start, and you don’t have to wait for the arrival of spring to want to organize your things, and household. All I need is some good music, and delicious snacks to get me through the organization process.

Day 57

This lesson is from Friday.

While we were waiting for dinner to finish cooking. My Grandma and I were helping my mama organize her stuff. She just moved not too long ago. So we were helping her with some organization. I have been trying to help my mom organize her things for the past few years now. But I feel like she is slowly starting to get organized. In the process, I hope that she can also downsize her items. She does have a lot of things. I am happy to help to help her.

I also help my sister organize her things, as well. Everyone always comes to me when they need help cleaning and organizing things. I am comfortable with living with less things. I like things in my life to be organized.

Today, I will see the beauty in helping others. Whether it is me lending someone my time, or my money. I will find ways to always lend a helping hand. I know that if I needed help, I would appreciate anyone’s help. There are benefits to the people receiving help, and the person giving help. It is important to help others when you can.

January 2021 Resolutions Summary

For my new followers, who may not know about this, I have been working on my Happiness Project. I have become inspired by Gretchen Rubin’s book titled The Happiness Project. In case you haven’t heard about the book, it’s where she made monthly resolutions in order to improve herself and her lives. Each month she focused on a different aspect in her life. I sort of mimicked her style. In January she focused on ways she can boost her energy.

On the first of every month, I will write about my resolutions are, and why. And then on the last day of the month, I will write about my successes and my not so successful resolutions. It has been an exciting journey so far.

This has been a bit of a difficult month for me, a lot of stresses, to be honest. But I think I was able to handle those stresses because I have been working on my Happiness Project. I dealt with helping my mom move, and she has a lot of things. Another thing that was stressful to me, at least, was babysitting my niece. I don’t have children, so the thought of having to watch someone else’s child(ren) gives me anxiety. But now that I have done it more times, I am getting used to it. But some days it’s hard because I have to say no to her, since she can’t climb on to the table.

My January resolutions were…

  1. Go to bed early
  2. Exercise more
  3. Organize
  4. Tackle a nagging task

I was able to do these resolutions, but for me the hardest one was going to bed late, mostly because my boyfriend likes to stay up late playing video games. So it is sometimes hard for me to go to bed when I like to. We live with other people, so we can’t really use the living room for his video game. So he has to play in our room, which is basically all we have to ourselves.

The easiest resolution that I was able to follow was organizing. I love organizing things, so it was easy for me to keep things organized, and get organized.

Tackling a nagging project is any projects that I need to get done, or should get should, but for whatever I keep putting off. I have brainstormed some ideas already, so I am able to do some of them when I have the time. I like to keep track of everything using a piece of paper, and when I accomplish a resolution, I put a red check mark beside all of the resolutions I have completed for the day.

I know that with as time goes by, I will find it easier to accomplish this in the upcoming weeks. I am starting to feel a bit more happier. Which is something I was hoping for. I can’t wait to be even more happier. I feel like these resolutions have been helpful, and I can’t wait to partake in the resolutions that I have made for myself in February. More to come about that tomorrow!

Day 12

Hey, sorry everyone. I had a busy day yesterday. I was helping my mom out with her packing for her move. And before I helped I had made chicken noodle soup and took a shower before seeing her.

I feel like her and I were able to get a lot done. I was trying to teach her how it was important to pack like items into a box, instead of what fits. I feel from experience, that packing like items in the same boxes makes things a lot easier when you are trying to unpack.

Today, I will try my best to organize things as I go. I will try to keep like items together in my house. I will try to find a “home” for every item, as well. Whenever I am finish with that item, I will be sure to put it back where I got it from.

Thankful Thursdays #25 – December 17th, 2020

I can’t believe I have been doing this for the past 25 weeks now. I feel so much better about myself. I hope you have been working on trying to feel more grateful with everything in your life. It may be challenging, but it gets easier to think of ways to express more gratitude.

Here is a list of things I am grateful for.

  1. I hung out with my sister earlier this week, it was extra quiet since that was the first time her and I hung out since the birth of her daughter. It felt odd, because my niece adds so much joy to their house. But I did get to see her after day care.
  2. I helped my sister organize her clothes, and I helped folded my niece’s laundry, as well. My sister organized my niece’s clothes since she has been growing.
  3. In my containers of things I had at my own at my mom’s house, I found a lot of older shirts that I haven’t worn in a bit, It was quite refreshing to see them and wear them again.
  4. I found my older mugs, including two more Christmas/winter mugs, and my giraffe mug.
  5. Getting my room ready for the new year. I’m doing that by moving some of my furniture to dust the baseboards and clean the walls. I’m also finding a new home for some of my new belongings.

Thankful Thursdays #24 – December 10th, 2020

It’s hard to believe that I have been doing this for six months now. I feel like this activity has benefited me in more ways than one. I encourage everyone to express gratitude at least once a week. You don’t have to write it down, or type it out, even just thinking or talking about what you are grateful is helpful, too.

Every Thursday, I write about what I am thankful for.

Here is a list of the things I am thankful for this week.

  1. I am happy and appreciate the love and kindness from my followers by liking my posts, and having conversation throughout the comment section. I have gained another 100 followers in three and a half weeks, and I am now over 600 followers. I had no idea I was going to have this many followers when I first started out.
  2. My boyfriend and I have stopped having take out for a bit. That way we can save some more money, and eat more healthier. We have had a lot of delicious home cooked meals this week. I love cooking, so that makes me happy.
  3. I got to see my sister and niece today. She is part of my bubble, and our boyfriends work together, so it’s okay for us to see each other. We had a lot of fun together. My niece got her bangs cut, just beforehand. She looks extra cute.
  4. I got my last container from my sister’s house. I am so excited, because now I can finally go through my belongings. It makes me really proud of myself. I’ll be working through that this weekend.
  5. I got to play with my niece earlier tonight, she was showing me all of her toys in her room while my sister was making us dinner.

Let me know some of the things you are grateful for this week. 🙂

Write in a Journal

In this edition of Feel Good Fridays, I’m hear to talk about the benefits of writing in a journal. If you aren’t much a writer, you can draw a picture, or just jot down some ideas and feelings.

This is a post where I try to encourage us to incorporate small ways to make healthy choices and feel good about ourselves even on what appears to the worst day ever.

Writing in a journal is so simple. It has the power to help calm our minds from racing. You can write out a to-do list, which helps you organize your tasks and shows you which ones to prioritize the important ones, and what needs to be done next. You can write about your goals, and how to make them come true. You can use it to keep your goals on track.

It helps reduce stress, while increasing your creativity as well. It’s your journal, so you can decorate it, however you see fits your style. You can decide when and how often you wish to write in it. You can write every day, or weekly. There are no rules, make your own.

Day 96 of 192

This is more miscellaneous stuff from the container I had carelessly set aside some of my belongings into a container. Clearly not a lot of thought was put into this. To be fair, I was pressed for time to pack up my room.

I often wondered why I allowed myself to be weighed down by all of these unnecessary objects.

Digital Declutter: I am making it a habit to spend ten minutes organizing and deleting my photos from my laptop.

Day 66 of 192

This decluttering journey has been liberating. I am so happy with the progress I have been making.

Today, I am donating this pencil sharpener, that I no longer need or use.

Digital Declutter: I have also deleted ten photos from my phone that I no longer need. It’s a start for finally (digitally) organizing my photos into albums onto my phone. It’s long overdue.
