Broken & Beautiful by Kelly Clarkson

Every week, as part of Music Mondays, I post a positive song to kick start the week! This week is Broken & Beautiful by Kelly Clarkson. I grew up loving Kelly Clarkson. I first saw Kelly Clarkson on American Idol, and I admired all of her songs since then.

She just recently went through a divorce. This is her anthem saying that our hardships can break us down, but that’s okay, because we are broken, but we are still beautiful, and that is what counts. Being broken doesn’t mean anything bad, it talks about how we can overcome these hardships, and come back even stronger.

“I don’t need you to lower the bar for me
I know I’m Superwoman, I know I’m strong
I know I’ve got this ’cause I’ve had it all along
I’m phenomenal and I’m enough
I don’t need you to tell me who to be”

-Kelly Clarkson

Touch the Sky – Brave

Every week, I like to write about a positive song to help us jump start the week. I like to call this segment Music Mondays. This song is from Monday March the 15th.

The song I selected is Touch the Sky, which is featured in the movie Brave. I really enjoy that movie a lot. My Great Grandparents are from Scotland, and the Disney Princess Merida is Scottish, too. I really like that.

To me, this song is about chasing your dreams and accomplishing them no matter what everyone else may say about your dreams. You are capable of achieving anything you set yourself out to accomplish.

“I will hear their every story
Take hold of my own dream
Be as strong as the seas are stormy
And proud as an eagle’s scream”

-Merida, Brave

Queen – Jully Black

Since it’s International Women’s Day, I picked the perfect song to celebrate, and to celebrate us.

I picked Queen, by Jully Black, Canada’s Queen of R&B Soul. CBC Music named her one of the top 25 Greatest Canadian Singers Ever.

The song I decided for Music Mondays is such an inspirational song, it is also one of my favourite songs from her. I hope you like this song just as much as I do!

“I went left, when you went right
Delivering a purpose, I’m living out my life
Just me and my decision, a million reasons why I had to fight
Just me and my decision, a million reasons

I’m a girl, I’m a lady, I’m a woman, I’m a queen
I’m everything I can dream
I’m a girl, I’m a lady, I’m a woman, I’m a queen
I’m everything I can dream”

-Jully Black, Queen

A Special Music Monday

Hey everyone!

This past Monday, it was Justin Bieber’s and Kesha’s birthdays. I used to be obsessed with them growing up, so I have dedicated Music Monday to feature both of these artists. With Justin Bieber, I picked Never Say Never, and for Kesha, I picked Learn to Let Go.

To me, these songs are both inspiring. Never Say Never is remembering us that we should never back down from any obstacle life has thrown our way.

“I will never say never
I will fight
I will fight ’til forever
To make it right
Whenever you knock me down
I will not stay on the ground”

-Justin Bieber, Never Say Never

With Kesha, she has been through so much. I am proud of all of her accomplishments. She is reminding us that we are strong enough to let go of our past, so we can embrace a future filled with opportunity, and hope.

“I think it’s time to practice what I preach
Exorcise the demons inside me
Whoa, gotta learn to let it go
The past can’t haunt me if I don’t let it
Live and learn and never forget it
Whoa, gotta learn to let it go”

-Kesha, Learn to Let Go

Why Not? – Hilary Duff

I love starting the week off with positive vibes. I adore Hilary Duff, and I miss watching Lizzie McGuire. I definitely am going to have a marathon of Lizzie McGuire soon!

What I love about this song is that it encourages everyone to go out and chase your dreams. Instead of focusing on the negatives of what may or may not happen to us when we go after our goals, we should go after our goals anyway. I hope that everyone is able to achieve at least one of their goals. It just takes determination, and motivation to accomplish all that you want in life. I feel bad for girls that are growing up without many inspirational songs like this. I feel like there isn’t as much as there was when I was growing up.

“Why not (why not)
Take a crazy chance
Why not (why not)
Do a crazy dance
If you lose the moment
You might lose a lot
So,
Why not, why not”

-Hilary Duff, Why Not

Dig A Little Deeper

One of my favourite Disney movies is Princess and the Frog, I love this movie, because it centres around Tiana who has worked really hard to have her own restaurant. She shared a passion for cooking because her Dad loved cooking.

It’s Music Mondays, so I like to start the week off with posting a positive song, to help us stay positive and happy.

In this song, Dig a Little Deeper, it talks about how you just got to dig a little deeper to find out who you are, so you can move forward with your dreams and goals. It’s important to find out who you are.

“You got to dig a little deeper
Find out who you are
You got to dig a little deeper
It really ain’t that far”

Up! – Shania Twain

I love representing my Canadian girls! One of my favourite singers is Shania Twain. I remember my parents bought me a Shania Twain CD for Christmas. I was so happy! I love listening to her music. I remember begging my parents to play that CD in their car. So I thought it would be perfect to include her for Music Mondays.

The song that I picked for Shania Twain is Up!, it is about learning to remain positive after something bad has happened to you. Shania is telling us that things can only go up from here.

“When everything is goin’ wrong
Don’t worry, it won’t last for long
Yeah, it’s all gonna come around
Don’t go let it get you down
You gotta keep on holding on”

-Shania Twain, Up!

Fly – Hilary Duff

Every Monday, I love starting off the week off of a positive note, so I pick a fun, inspiring and motivational song to put us in the best mood ever! I hope this song inspires you to do anything you wish to do.

This week, the song I picked is Hillary Duff’s Fly. It used to be one of my favourite songs, growing up. I love it because it inspires you to showcase your soul to other people no matter what. You may never know who might fall in love with your smile, if you’re always frowning. Regardless you shouldn’t hide who you are, embrace who you are.

You can’t fly if you are still holding onto yesterday’s worries.

“And when you’re down and feel alone
Just wanna run away
Trust yourself and don’t give up
You know you better than anyone else

In a moment, everything can change
Feel the wind on your shoulders
For a minute, all the world can wait
Let go of yesterdays”

-Hilary Duff, Fly

New Day – Alicia Keys

In honour of Alicia Key’s birthday, which was on Monday, perfect for Music Mondays. I decided it would be perfect to celebrate her. I have always loved her, and still do.

The song I picked is New Day, because to me, she is talking about how a new day brings us new opportunities. We should learn to let go of our yesterdays, and embrace new beginnings. Anything is possible.

“There’s a feeling that I got that I can’t give up
Feeling in my heart that I can’t get over
I know that it’s coming, let the sun come up
Tell me do you feel the same? Everybody say”

-Alicia Keys, New Day

If I Wasn’t So Small

Today is Winnie the Pooh Day, since A.A. Milne was born on January 18th, 1882. He is mostly known for his creation of Winnie the Pooh. I love watching Winnie the Pooh, it is a really great story. So I thought I can write about him and his friends today and acknowledge Milne for my Music Mondays.

What I love about this song is that it doesn’t matter if you were born small, what matters is what is in your heart. We shouldn’t measure people by how tall they are, but instead we should measure how big their hearts are.

“It’s not as if I want to rule the world
Or even the forest
Or even one tree
I suppose I could be happy
If I could be helpful
With just a little bit of noticing me”

-Carly Simon, If I Wasn’t So Small
